Momentum Bay creates value for commercial & residential electricity clients in four ways: 1) we analyze, 2) we negotiate, 3) we train, & 4) we care.

1. We analyze.

   Since natural gas prices directly determine electricity prices in Texas, we follow the natural gas markets constantly.

   No one can really "time the market," but careful, constant study of the many factors influencing electricity prices -- e.g., natural gas markets, energy markets, financial markets, consumer & business demand, weather patterns, political instability, legislation, etc. -- can provide important insights that can more than offset our commission in one day's price fluctuation.

   Furthermore, we closely & frequently compare the dynamic terms & conditions, reputations, credit worthiness, service quality, value, & prices among the more than 40 REPs serving the Texas market so that our customers can make well informed decisions.

2. We negotiate.

   Anyone can purchase electricity in three ways: 1) direct, 2) brokered, or 3) aggregated.

   DIRECT

   While it is possible to request electricity prices directly from REPs through their in-house, direct sales teams, our customers continue to confirm that our prices beat the prices they receive directly. And, REPs rely heavily on the low-cost Aggregator-Broker-Consultant (ABC) Channel to reach & service customers through personal relationships.

   BROKERS

   Just about any person or company can become an electricity broker. In most deregulated markets, no relevant experience, certification or license is even required to be an electricity broker. And, the vast majority of brokers do not disclose their commissions to customers, which can be exorbitant.

   For some clients, particularly very large commercial accounts with annual usage over 500,000 kWh, we often act as a broker rather than an aggregator.

   AGGREGATORS

   Aggregators, on the other hand, must be registered with (that is, approved by) the Public Utility Commission of Texas based on a thorough, lengthy application proving relevant experience & transparency, as well as report annually.

   Registered aggregators are legally able to coordinate voluntary buying groups (“aggregations”) of business & residential electricity customers in competitive, deregulated markets across Texas. Despite the challenges of simultaneously coordinating multiple parties & managing the associated paperwork, business aggregations tend to be the most rewarding to all involved.

   Momentum Bay is Texas’ first electricity aggregator focused on exclusively green electricity (Registration Certificate #80247), among about 200 aggregators registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas. (Other aggregators include McDonald's Corporation, H.E. Butt Grocery Company, & The Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.)

   Shopping with an aggregator may be able to secure better rates, terms & conditions if a customer can join other similar customers (i.e., with the same load profile, usage levels, contract start date & desired contract length). In fact, customers may be able to earn up to a 30% bulk discount relative to Retail Electric Providers’ (REPs) current offers for 100% green electricity.

   Aggregators & brokers like us are compensated directly by REPs for sales, general & administrative services on a usage-based commission basis, which is priced into each aggregation’s energy rate (e.g., $0.001/kWh). We receive commissions either monthly, upfront, or part upfront and part at the end. So, our customers pay no additional fees to us while they enjoy significant savings on REPs' best prices for renewable electricity.

3. We train.

   Momentum Bay rewards discounted green electricity with discounted green learning. We help our neighbors discover practical ways to use less energy & green their lives, homes & organizations. Electricity customers receive:

   Why are we bundling electricity & training? We recognize that:
   1. people account for more than 85% of an organization’s costs, while energy accounts for less than 1%
   2. the best alternative energy is conservation
   3. changing bad habits is tough; and
   4. most of us are not aware of why & how so many other households, businesses & industrialized countries have improved their quality of life, economies, communities, environment & honored God through more sustainable practices.

   How else can we live up to Washington DC’s recent challenge to reduce our nation’s gasoline usage by 20% in 10 years? And, reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2050?

4. We care.

   Thanks to our diverse revenue sources, low overhead & extensive long-term relationships in Texas’ business, environmental, & faith communities – all members of our aggregations, we are able to accept lower commissions than conventional brokers & aggregators & pass on more savings to our community.
